I loved my trip to Fort Knox. I got the chance to visit the Patton museum and learned a lot of history I was unaware of. The leadership museum allowed me to focus in my own business and learn from the past experiences of great leaders such as General Patton. The history and grounds were amazing....I really enjoyed the tanks and memorials! The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I look forward to visiting again soon.
Went to advanced AIT training for tank mechanic (63C20) in June 1970.Patton Museum was on the post grounds in an old wooden building. They were converting some old M48 tanks to diesel engines from gas engines when I was there. We tuned a gas engine and it had 24 spark plugs,12 cylinders and four magneto's. My barracks was brand new brick ones instead of the old wooden WWII ones that I had at Ft Campbell,KY and Ft Leonardwood,Mo.You could hear tanks training for night firing at times and feel the shell hit thru the floor.
Best post that I have ever been on.
There's some really great stuff here!!!
Stationed here twice & it'll always be a special place to me but it's necessary to point out, for those who may have been away since before 2011, there's hardly anything left at Knox - no soldiers training, no one drilling, not even anymore tanks. Most EVERYTHING & EVERYONE was sent to Ft Benning. If you're expecting the thriving post it used to be, temper your expectations and anticipate a ghost town instead.
